Sharesight is a share-portfolio tracker with a tax accountant’s heart: trades, dividends, splits and tax reports across 60+ markets, with a free plan for ten holdings. Kubera is a net-worth tracker: every asset and every debt, listed or not, in one daily balance sheet. Investors who hold mostly shares often want Sharesight. People whose wealth is also houses, funds, crypto and loans want Kubera. Some run both.

Pick Kubera if

Shares are one part of what you own.

  • You want one number for everything: property, private funds, crypto wallets, bank accounts, cars, and the mortgage against them.
  • You want connected bank and brokerage balances, not only trade imports.
  • You track fund commitments, capital calls and distributions, with IRR per position.
  • You want your family, your adviser or your AI assistant to read the whole picture.
Pick Sharesight if

Shares are most of what you own and tax reporting is the job.

  • You want dividend, DRP and corporate-action tracking across many markets.
  • You need taxable-income and capital-gains reports built for your tax year (Australia and New Zealand especially).
  • You hold ten or fewer positions and want the free plan.
  • You do not need liabilities, bank balances or private assets on the same page.

The line that decides it: assets only

Sharesight says plainly that it tracks assets only. There is no place for a mortgage, a margin loan or a credit card, which means there is no net worth, only the value of the investments. For a share investor that is the point: the product goes deep on what it tracks and ignores the rest. For anyone who wants “what am I worth”, it is the reason to look elsewhere.

Kubera starts from the full balance sheet. Assets on one side, debts on the other, one number at the bottom, and a daily history of that number from the day you connect. The listed-share part is good, with ticker, quantity, cost basis and IRR per position, but it is one section among many.

Where Sharesight is better

If your question is “what did my share portfolio return, after dividends, in my tax year, and what do I owe”, Sharesight answers it better than Kubera does. Dividends, reinvestment plans and corporate actions are tracked automatically across 60+ markets; the Taxable Income and Capital Gains reports are built for specific tax jurisdictions (Australian and New Zealand investors in particular); the contribution and multi-period reports are what a serious share investor wants. The free plan covers ten holdings, and the paid plans start at $7 a month. Kubera has none of the tax reporting and does not pretend to.

Where Kubera is better

Everything Sharesight leaves out: bank accounts connected rather than typed, liabilities, property kept current by an AI appraiser, crypto in wallets and DeFi rather than by file import, private funds with their call schedules, documents attached to assets, a family structure with per-entity access, and a read-only AI connection. If a share portfolio is half your net worth and the other half is a house, a mortgage, a fund commitment and a few wallets, Kubera is the product that shows the half and the whole.

Three steps for running Sharesight and Kubera together

Running both

A fair number of share investors do: Sharesight for performance and tax on the listed portfolio, Kubera for the balance sheet it sits inside. Kubera connects to the same brokers directly, so nothing has to be exported from one into the other.

People who wanted the whole picture, not only the shares

“For brokerage accounts, it not only pulls in account balances, but actual ticker, share qty, and cost basis data.”

I've used tons of net worth tracking apps. Kubera is my favorite by FAR. I have zero affiliation. I'm pretty sure it's a tiny team. But they've been launching so many cool features and are moving fast.
